Honoree: Emanuel R. Gold (1935-2013) was the senior ranking Democrat in the New York State Senate. He was elected to the Assembly at a Special Election in 1970, and served in that chamber until his election to the Senate in a Special Election the following year. He was the prime sponsor of over 80 laws. In 1977, he crafted the nation's first "Son of Sam" law which calls for victims of notorious criminals to be compensated from profits criminals gain from the sale of their stories. Grace Gold Way (Manhattan)
Present name:West side of Broadway
Location:Between 115th Street and 116th Street
Honoree: Grace Gold was studying at Barnard College as a freshman when she was killed by a falling piece of masonry at Broadway and 115th Street. This accident led to the City Council passing Local Law 10 which requires that the facades of buildings seven stories and taller be inspected every five years and that hazardous conditions be corrected. Honoree: Martin Gold was a longtime Bronx activist. Several times a month, he would repaint mailboxes that had been vandalized by graffiti and always valued quality of life issues. He was also activist on behalf of senior citizens.
