NYC Honorary Street Names

Coogan

Coogan’s Way  (Manhattan)
Present name:None
Location:At the northwest corner of 169th Street and Broadway
Honoree: Coogan’s was a beloved institution, an iconic Irish pub that opened in 1985 but was forced to close during the Covid-19 pandemic--ironically on St. Patrick's Day 2021. It was located at 4015 Broadway, and was a community gathering place that transcended lines of race and class in the diverse, largely Dominican neighborhood. It brought all types together, from doctors and nurses at nearby Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, to cops, firefighters and politicians. It was also a neighbor of the National Track & Field Center at the former 168th Street Armory, and thus became one of the premier bars for runners in New York City. (Rodriguez)
