Location:The existing north shore esplanade walkway between Pier No. 1 and DOT Building No. 11 at the Saint George Ferry Terminal
Honoree: The Staten Island chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans has an existing memorial site on the esplanade at the former U.S. Coast Guard Base in St. George. It is dedicated to those who served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during the Second World War and in particular to those who did not survive “The Battle of the Oceans” in which 6,834 Merchant Marines were killed, 11,000 wounded, 604 were taken prisoners of war and 61 died in prison camps.
