For two years after his retirement, he continued to volunteer at the school where he was a father figure to many children. When not at school, he could be found at Sol Bloom Playground teaching sportsmanship and skills. Basketball and football were his passions. He spent countless hours teaching young athletes techniques only using their bodies but also their intellects. During the 1970s and ‘80s, when the city’s parks and recreational facilities were overrun with drug dealers and addicts, he watched over his young students and provided them with support.
