WycheRosia Wyche Way (Brooklyn) Present name:None Location:At the intersection of West 32nd Street and Surf Avenue Honoree: Rosia Wyche (1943-2013) was a pillar of the Coney Island community. Born in Warsaw, North Carolina, she graduated Boston University and later found a job at Coney Island Hospital. She worked there for 31 years, the last 20 of them as an Administrator, before retirng in 2003. As a longtime resident of Coney Island Houses, she advocated for her fellow tenants in public housing. She was also a Tenant Patrol Supervisor, and a leader in local and citywide tenant organizations. She was well known for helping to organize events, including the annual Coney Island Houses outdoor/indoor summer festival. Ms. Wyche was a member of Community Board 13, where she served on several committees. Her greatest accomplishment as a board member was helping to restore Nautilus Playground, an important resource for children in the community. She started the African-American Senior Club; helped establish the Coney Island Prep Charter School; and served as Press Secretary to the Bishop at the Coney Island Cathedral of Deliverance Church.
