Honoree: Bernard L. Shapiro (d. 2009) was a community leader who gave most of his time to the Garden Jewish Center of Flushing. For over 30 years, he gave legal advice to the Center’s board of directors and clergy on a pro bono basis and helped establish youth programs and additional funding for the temple as well.
