Honoree: Benjamin Wright Jr. moved to New York City in 1950. He worked for the City of New York for 27 years, retiring as Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) in 1996. After retirement, he founded Green World Unlimited, Inc., located on Wall Street where he served as Chairman. He spent the rest of his life organizing and working with Southeast Queens community based organizations. He served as president of the Southeast Queens Democratic Club and of the Thurgood Marshall Regular Democratic Club. He was also chairman of the board of the S.G.G.C. Community Service Agency, an after-school service program which includes tutoring and free meals five days a week. He was a lifelong member of the NAACP and was a board member as the treasurer of the Jamaica Branch. He was also a board member of the United Black Men of Queens where he served as vice president and treasurer; a member of the Advisory Board of the Emblem Health Insurance Plan; a member of the of the York College Community Advisory Committee; served on Community Board 12; was a member of the administrative board of the Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church; and administrator of a GED Program for Adolescents in the Riker’s Island Correctional Institution for Women. Judge Bruce Wright Place (Manhattan)

Honoree: Bruce Wright (1917-2005), a former New York judge who denounced racism in the criminal justice system, was well known for setting low bail for many poor and minority defendants, earning him the epithet “Turn ‘Em Loose Bruce” from the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.

Honoree: James S. Wright (1935-1992) was born in Knoxville TN. After earning bachelor's and divinity degrees he came to New York to to work at Highland Church in Jamaica, then a Southern Baptist congregation of fewer than 100 members. Under his leadership, it grew to become an interdenominational church with over 3,000 members. The church provides outreach services to the homeless and to men of all ages, as well as to singles and prisoners.

Reverend Timothy Wright Way (Brooklyn)

Honoree:  Reverend Timothy Wright (1947-2009) was the founder and Pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center C.O.G.I.C., a church in Crown Heights. He was also a Grammy-nominated gospel singer. In 1994, his rendition of “Come Thou Almighty King”, made the Billboard Top 20 charts for gospel albums and was nominated for a Grammy for best traditional soul gospel album. In 1976, he founded the Timothy Wright Concert Choir. Its releases include, "Who's On The Lord's Side?" “Testify”, “Moving in the Spirit” and "Do You Know The Light?" (Cornegy, Jr.)
