Buffalo SoldiersBuffalo Soldiers Square (Queens) Present name:None Location:At the intersection of Tuskegee Airmen Way and 160th Street Honoree: The 10th Calvary Regiment was formed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1866. It was composed of all African-American enlisted men and white officers. It was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments. The regiment served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States; the Spanish-American War in Cuba; and in the Philippine-American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in WWII until its deactivation in 1944.
