In 1948 he founded the well-known "Lester's" clothing stores, known for giving people clothing and allowed them to pay at a later time. His small, family –owned chain eventually grew to six stores, including two in Long Island. He was a regular sponsor of fundraisers for local organizations, churches, schools and synagogues. He conducted fashion shows to raise money for people in need throughout the community.
