AgovinoAl Agovino, Sr. Way (Bronx) Present name:None Location:At the southeast corner of Harrington Avenue and Mayflower Avenue Honoree: Al Agovino, Sr. (1921-2015), a Pelham Bay resident, was a lifetime member of the AHRC New York City Chapter, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting those with developmental disabilities. He was instrumental in establishing the AHRC day program center on Mayflower Avenue which continues today. He was the president of AHRC for three years and was a member of the board of directors for 25 years. He served on the Bronx Developmental Disabilities Service Office Parent Association, the New York State Commission on Quality Care for the Mentally Disabled Advisory Council, Board of Visitors Metro NY DDSO and the New York State Autism Advisory Council on Quality Care for the Mentally Disabled. He received numerous service and humanitarian awards for his work with the disabled and also advocated for counseling and support for the siblings and family members of AHRC. (Vacca) LL:2016/92 |
