Honoree: Abe (Averemel) Zelmanowitz was a long time resident of Brooklyn and a devout member of the Orthodox Jewish community. After the planes crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11th, Abe chose to stay in the building with his close friend and colleague, Mr. Bereya, a paraplegic. Abe dismissed his friend’s health aide, telling her , “You go ahead, I’ll stay behind with him till help arrives.” “You have a family to raise.”
