Honoree: Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) was an African-American journalist, abolitionist and feminist who led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States in the 1890s. She was a teacher who became a vocal critic of the condition of African-American-only schools in Memphis, and established the first African-American kindergarten in her community. In 1896, she formed the National Association of Colored Women and later became a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Ingram and Geneva Montgomery Way (Brooklyn)

Honoree: Ingram and Geneva Montgomery were one of the first families to move into the Brevoort Houses after it opened. Ingram, a World War II veteran, was the first tenant patrol captain and served at his post for over 20 years. Geneva was the first tenant’s association president and served for 30 years. They were also active members of the 81st Precinct Community Council. Geneva was instrumental in raising funds for the Brevoort Sports Foundation and the Brevoort Midget Basketball League for which Ingram was the coach. Geneva also fed people in need and made sure the neighborhood had extra police presence on game nights. Over the years, Ingram and Geneva Montgomery received numerous awards and citations for their work on behalf of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. (Mealy)
