Honoree: Father Vincent R. Capodanno (1929-1967) was born in Staten Island and ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1957. In 1965, he joined the Navy Chaplain Corps and was assigned to the First Marine Division in Vietnam. During operations in the Que Son Valley, the Marines encountered a large North Vietnamese unit of approximately 2,500 men. Twenty-six Marines were killed. Father Capodanno went among the wounded and dying, giving last rites and was killed by enemy fire. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. (Oddo)

In 1990 he was elected president of the Staten Island Vicarate.

Honoree: Father Macris, born in Brooklyn, was educated at colleges and seminaries in the US as well as the University of Athens School of Theology. He was ordained a deacon on June 10, 1961 and enteered the priesthood the following week. On April 15, 1984, 23 years after his ordination, he was named Protopresbyteros of the Ecumenical Patriarchate by his Holiness Patriarch Demetrios I. Father Macris served Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for 24 years, buiding its membership from 185 to 600 families, and was instrumental in the construction of the present Holy Trinity Church, opened in 1970.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the New York City Fire Department in 2001. He was a member of Ladder Co. 84 in Huguenot. He also spent part of his career at Engine 217 in Brooklyn. He was known as a mentor and role model for the younger firefighters. He was also renowned for his humor, smile and his occasional pranks. Having served his community with honer and courage for over 19 years in the FDNY, his life ended tragically on October 8, 2020 after he was involved in a car and tractor-trailer accident in New Jersey. Honoree:  James Marshall Sr. (1952-2014)was a native Staten Islander. He grew up in Dongan Hills and graduated from New Dorp High School. After service in the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the USS Enterprise in Newport News, Virginia, he joined the New York City Fire Department in 1979. He was a member of Engine Co. 253 in Brooklyn, then Engine Co. 166 in Graniteville, and later retired from Ladder Co. 78 in Tompkinsville completing 23 years of life-saving work. He was one of many first responders who went to the site of the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks on 9/11. But responding to the ruins of the Twin Towers led to his untimely death. He passed away on November 30, 2014 due to a 9/11 related cancer. He was later honored and remembered for his service at the World Trade Center Memorial Wall at FDNY headquarters in Brooklyn in 2015. Honoree:  Frank Appice (1937-2017) was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the USS Intrepid. He was a vice president and board member of the Former Crew Members Association. He was the chairman and a founder of the largest chapter of the Rolling Thunder, a motorcyclists organization established in 1987 to call attention to any prisoners of war or those listed as missing in action. . He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and used the Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 to set up the annual DAV support run which has raised in excess of $75,000. On 9/11, he was in his office on the 88th floor of the North Tower at the time of the attacks. He immediately began helping everyone to the exits and carried a man in his 90’s from the 11th floor all the way to safety outside of the Tower just before it collapsed.
