Honoree:  Pete Hamill (1935-2020) was born in Park slope to Irish immigrants, He became a legendary journalist and columnist and the editor of three New York daily newspapers. He working for over 40 years covering events and conflicts in Vietnam, Lebanon, Nicaragua, and Northern Ireland as well as racial and class tensions in New York City. He wrote for the New York Daily News, the New York Post, Newsday, the Village Voice, New York magazine, and Esquire, among other publications. He won a Grammy award in 1975 for writing the liner notes to Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan. He was also the author of ten novels, two collections of short stories, and several works of nonfiction. He was a bona fide New York celebrity, often mentioned in gossip columns for his associations with figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy, promoting his books on television, and attending numerous charity events and parties. He was also well-known for his advocacy, standing up to publishers over pay and treatment of employees, and also made news when, as Editor-in-Chief of the New York Post, he promoted and hired several women and minority staffers and reporters.
