Honoree:  Johnny Pacheco (1935-2021) cofounded Fania Records in 1964, which showcased many talented Latin artists. He was a songwriter, arranger and leader of the Fania All Stars, salsa’s first supergroup. He was the recipient of numerous awards and honors both in the Dominican Republic and the United States and was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1998. He received the Presidential Medal of Honor from the President of the Dominican Republic in 1996, the Bobby Capo Lifetime Achievement Award from Governor George Pataki and the received the First International Dominican Artist Award at the Casandra Awards and became the first Latin music producer to receive the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Governor’s Award. He wrote more than 150 songs, many of them now classics. (Cabrera)
