Honoree: Kelly Korchak (1979-2017) was a two-time “Cop of the Month.” She graduated from the academy in 2002, and was assigned to the 73rd Precinct in Brooklyn before being transferred to Staten Island. There she joined the borough’s Evidence Collection Team in 2007. While in the academy, she worked near the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks and also worked at Ground Zero for two weeks. She was awarded Cop of the Month after aiding in the arrest of four shooting suspects/ She was awarded it again when she helped break up a burglary ring by recovering 17 latent fingerprints from two separate burglaries, indicating a burglary pattern. She died as a result of 9/11-related illness. (Borelli)
