CocaLuz Yolanda Coca Way (Brooklyn) Present name:None Location:At the intersection of Suydam Street and Wilson Avenue Honoree: Luz Yolanda Coca (1956-2016) was a skilled community organizer and fierce advocate for tenant rights for over 30 years. She began as a volunteer at AmeriCorp’s VISTA, ACORN and was later employed at the Fifth Avenue Committee. She was instrumental in helping local residents stand up against landlords who wrongfully threatened and harassed long-term tenants hoping to displace them. She was also a volunteer organizer at the Bushwick Housing Independence Project, helping tenants who faced eviction.
