Her musical style, honed in New York City after she left Cuba in 1963, influenced the Afro-Caribbean music movement in the City. She recorded 32 albums both as a soloist and in partnership with music legends such as Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaria. She spent her final years as an ordained evangelical minister in the Bronx.
