Honoree: Ingram and Geneva Montgomery were one of the first families to move into the Brevoort Houses after it opened. Ingram, a World War II veteran, was the first tenant patrol captain and served at his post for over 20 years. Geneva was the first tenant’s association president and served for 30 years. They were also active members of the 81st Precinct Community Council. Geneva was instrumental in raising funds for the Brevoort Sports Foundation and the Brevoort Midget Basketball League for which Ingram was the coach. Geneva also fed people in need and made sure the neighborhood had extra police presence on game nights. Over the years, Ingram and Geneva Montgomery received numerous awards and citations for their work on behalf of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community. (Mealy)

Tuskegee Airman Dabney N. Montgomery Place (Manhattan)

Honoree: Dabney Montgomery(1923-2016) served in the Army Air Corps as one of the Tuskegee Airmen during WWII and earned a Congressional Gold Medal. He was also awarded a Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal; the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; a Service Award; the Honorable Service Medal; and, a Basic Driver and Mechanic Medal. He also served as a bodyguard to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1965 march to Montgomery from Selma, Alabama. (Perkins)
