He was a founder of the Sixto Escobar Sports Club, served as a member of the Rotary Club of the Bronx, a member of the Hunts Point Lions Club, the Bronx County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the World Boxing Council, the National Association for Drug Abuse Prevention, the Hispanic Baseball League, the Police Chief’s Association, chairman of the Sports Committee for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Grand Marshall of the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade, and a board member of the Boy Scouts Bronx Council. Honoree: Hernando Rios (1975-2005) was a maintenance supervisor in the World Trade Center during the attacks of September 11, 2001. He joined the New York National Guard after the war in Iraq began While on patrol in Iraq, he was killed by a roadside bomb.

Honoree: William E. Rios was killed by a stray gunshot in Castleton Corners. He completed trade school at the New York School of Seamanship in Mariners Harbor and worked seasonally for the United Parcel Service and during the summer of 2007, worked with youth in Harlem as a counselor for the New York City Housing Authority.
