Honoree: Laura Almeida Egas (? - ?) was born in Ecuador and moved to Queens with her family in 1975. She is the mother of the first Ecuadorian American to serve on the Supreme Court and New York City Civil Court, Carmen Velasquez. She was very involved in organizing the Ecuadorian parade and was an active fundraiser for the family’s church and assisted those with mental disorders. (Dromm)
