LeeBertha Simons Lee Way (Staten Island) Present name:None Location:At the northwest corner of Park Avenue and Vreeland Street Honoree: Bertha Simons Lee (1930-2014) was an active member of St. Philips Baptist Church. She served as a member of the board of trustees; as financial secretary; as president of the Senior Usher Board; and as executive chairperson of the Charles K. Smith Scholarship Committee, which offered college scholarships to high school seniors who were members of the church and non-members in the community. Ms. Lee was also active in the Staten Island community a a member of the National Association of Negro Women of Staten Island; Community Board 1; the Port Richmond Neighborhood Watch Committee; the Staten Island NAACP; and a board member of the Northfield LDC. Lee (1929-2001), was a lawyer and a Republican District Leader, Early in his legal career, he was an Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York (1956 – 1957). He was also an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York (1953 – 1955). He later served as counsel to the Bronx Borough President and held posts in the administration of Mayor John V. Lindsay. Lee (d. 2008) served on the board of the NYC Health Systems Agency and was active in many community activities. LL:2009/92 P.O. Kevin M. Lee Way (Staten Island) Present name:None Location:Intersection of Cromwell Avenue and Hylan Boulevard Honoree: Kevin M. Lee (1974-2006) was assigned to Manhattan’s 30th Precinct as part of the elite Manhattan North Grand Larceny Squad. He was credited with over 200 arrests in his short career. He collapsed after chasing and struggling to capture a trio of robbery suspects and later died in Lenox Hill Hospital.
