He opened a food pantry and soup kitchen serving approximately 3,000 people on a weekly basis. Honoree: W. Haywood Burns (1940-1995) was a distinguished civil rights lawyer and former Dean of of CUNY Law School at Queens College. While in South Africa to attend an international conference in South Africa, he was killed by a truck running a stop sign.
