WattsFannie Pettie Watts Way (Brooklyn) Present name:Decatur Street Location:Between Patchen Avenue and Malcom X Boulevard Honoree: Fannie Pettie (1899-1955) was born in Georgia, attended Georgia State College, and later graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. After earning a graduate degree in social work and housing at New York University, she was a Social Investigator for the Department of Social Services in Brooklyn. She was an active member of Brooklyn's Nazarene Congregational Church and the Director of its Cradle Roll division, where she helped develop prenatal/parenting classes for expectant parents. Additionally, she was an active participant in the local block association and was the link between community development workers and a range of other service providers, such as the police, social workers and teachers. She was a co-founder and a life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; a members of the Delta Alpha Zeta Graduate Chapter in Brooklyn; and is credited with organizing the Omicron Beta Chapter in Brooklyn.
