DeakJulius J. Deak Corner (Staten Island) Present name:None Location:Northwest corner of Knesel Street and Rossville Avenue Honoree: Julius J. Deak was a community leader in Rossville. He had started caddying at the South Shore Golf Course in 1936 and worked his way up to starter, a post he held until the golf course was sold to the city in 1966. Mr. Deak later worked in maintenance for the S.S. White Dental Manufacturing Co. and then for the Transit Authority, from which he retired in 1985. He was also appointed a wrestling judge for the New York State Athletic Commission. Mr. Deak died in 1993 at the age of 75. LL:1993/81 |
